Most Underrated Test Players in Modern Cricket

Cricket is a gentlemen’s game. It is one of the most followed sports across the globe. In some countries like India, it is treated more than religion and culture. The players are treated like gods. 
Their are many players in modern cricket who are talented but doesn't get the media attention. 
Here are the Top 10 underrated Test players of current generation:-
1. Jason Holder (West Indies)

Yes, the current skipper of the West Indies team is one of the most underrated player of current generation. Currently, he is the No.1 Test all rounder in ICC rankings and also at No.4 in ICC Test bowlers rankings. Since Jan 2018 he has a batting average of 42.50 and bowling average of 13.58. Even Sachin Tendulkar said Jason is one of the most underrated all rounder and a terrific player to have in your team.

2. Ravindra Jadeja (India)

Ravindra Jadeja became only the 10th Indian bowler to pick up 200 wickets in Test format. He also has the best average (24.20) among all the Indians to have taken 200 or more Test wickets. His batting is improving every year. He was averaging 37, 41, 45.6 in 2016, 2017 and 2018 respectively. As we all know he is also a very terrific fielder and can turn the game with his fielding only. 

3. Vernon Philander (South Africa)

Philander is one of the most underrated player in modern cricket. His teammates always overshadowed him. First, Dale Steyn stole the limelight and now Rabada is the center of all bowling in the Proteas side. He has been an excellent all rounder over the years. He has saved his team from many batting collapses. Also, he took  216 wickets in 60 Tests at bowling average of 22.10. He retired from cricket this year.

4. BJ Watling (New Zealand)

BJ Watling has played more than 50 Test matches still many of us don't know him.Watling has scored over 3000 runs with 8 hundreds till today. He has saved his team from many collapses. In 2014, Watling scored 124 runs against India in New Zealand. His 352 run partnership with New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum was at the time the highest sixth wicket stand in Test cricket. He is a very reliable player for his team. 

5. Ishant Sharma (India)

He has been criticized for being an  average bowler  for first 7–8 years of his career. Currently, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar are shining as the new Indian pace attack. Due to which his contribution for the team has diminished. His numbers are not that impressive but who watches cricket knows that he has evolved into a very excellent bowler over the years. He is a reliable bowler especially in Test format.
